Event Space
White River State Park has many (otherwise public) spaces that would be perfect for your private event. Call White River State Park directly at 317-249-2712 to book your event.
Larger Event Spaces:
Celebration Plaza
Celebration Plaza is the large (main) grassy area in front of the NCAA Hall of Champions. It's popular for festivals and other events. Rent it with or without the adjoining amphitheater.
Celebration Plaza Amphitheatre
Celebration Plaza Amphitheatre overlooks the White River from the east bank. Huge slabs of limestone nestled in the hillside provide seating for up to 1,000 people. A waterfall feature "connects" the Canal to the White River.
Historic Military Park
16-acre Military Park is the former home of a Civil War encampment and training field, and the original site for the Indiana State Fair. Rent the entire park, or just a quadrant. The East quadrant features a covered (open air) shelter house.
State Museum Lawn
This is the large green space in front of the Indiana State Museum.
Old Washington Street Bridge
This pedestrian-only bridge over the White River, once part of the Old National Road (US 40), features grassy areas and a variety of sculptures by Indiana artists.
Smaller Event Spaces:
Bison Plaza
Located at the west end of the Old Washington Street Bridge, this paved area is at the start of the River Promenade and by the back entrance gate to the Indianapolis Zoo. It's good for events with up to 200 seated guests.
Children's Maze
Located between the Visitors Center and Celebration Plaza, this space has huge limestone blocks in a series of concentric circles.
Locust Grove
Located northeast of the Visitors Center. Locust trees provide a lovely shady spot.
The Oval
An oval-shaped green space and surrounding sidewalk is located between the Visitor’s Center and historic Pumphouse, and seats about 400 people. For easy catering consider also renting the Visitors’ Center Back Pavilion.
Visitors Center Pavilion
Located directly behind the Visitors Center, and next to The Oval, the Visitors Center Pavilion makes for an easy catering location when renting The Oval.
Promenade Amphitheatre
The Promenade Amphitheatre is located west of White River, just north of the River Promenade, and offers great views of the river and downtown Indianapolis. Large stone slabs provide terraced seating for about 100 guests.
Pumphouse Amphitheatre
Located behind the historic Pumphouse, this area can hold about 300 guests. Large limestone slabs in the hillside provide tiered seating facing the historic Pumphouse.
Pumphouse Island
Located in front of the historic Pumphouse, this grassy area is good for up to 150 guests. Separated by only a sidewalk, it’s also convenient to rent with Celebration Plaza.
Waterfront Pavilion
Located behind the Indianapolis Zoo on the west bank of the White River, the Waterfront Pavilion offers great views of the river, park and downtown. This covered pavilion can seat up to 100 guests at long tables. There is also an open patio lookout directly below the pavilion.
